Synopsis:
"Controversial film pioneer D.W. Griffith lent his directing and writing talents to this pair of well-crafted silent melodramas. Lillian Gish stars as True Heart Susie, a simple, generous girl whose sacrifice for the man she loves (Robert Harron) comes back to haunt her. In Hoodoo Ann, Mae Marsh turns in a compelling performance as a down-and-out orphan who believes she's living under a curse that only true love can break."

"Silly Susie"

"This was definitely an awesome movie. I absolutely loved it. Just kidding, it was ok. The movie was definitely a sexist film to show the ideal woman, who cooks, cleans, and most definitely avoids partying. Susie falls in love with this guy she goes to school with and the two eventually become very good friends. This is really awkward, because Susie likes this guy, but he just doesn’t see her in the same way. Apparently this guy who goes by William, is real player among the ladies, but doesn’t realize it. All these trampy women try to seduce him and he happily falls for it. This usually angers Susie, but she lets it happen. The story picks up when William realizes that he has a shot at college and can make some serious dough if he does, but his dad disagrees and insists that farming is his only future. Susie secretly gives William the money for college without his knowledge. Silly William thinks that some wealthy fellow from town gave it to him. Anyways, he goes to college and comes back a gentleman preacher. He falls for one of the various girls who seduce him and eventually marries her. This puts Susie into depression. Eventually the audience realizes that William’s new wife just married him for the money and openly parties and has affairs. During one night of debauchery, William’s wife gets caught in the rain and can’t get inside her house. She does the natural thing and runs to dependable ole Susie, who graciously takes care of her lover’s thief. William’s wife falls ill and eventually dies. Susie then marries William and everything is happily ever after. Overall True Heat Susie is not a bad silent film, because Lillian Gish can act. Her facial expressions are priceless and definitely make the 61 minutes go by easier."
