Synopsis: "Director Randal Kleiser's film version of the hit Broadway musical about 1950s teen angst took the country by storm, inspiring a wave of nostalgia and receiving a slew of Golden Globe and Oscar nominations. In between flashily choreographed musical numbers, the film chronicles the romantic entanglements of a group of high school seniors, starting with a summer fling between greaser Danny (John Travolta) and good girl Sandy (Olivia Newton-John)." ""Grease" a love story musical in the 50s!""Movie Review Grease (1978) Reviewed by Vanessa Rosales Details Release Date: June 16, 1978; Rated: PG-13 ; Length: 1 hour 50 minutes; Genres: Romance, Musical, Comedy; With: John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Jeff Conaway; Distributor: Paramount Pictures: Director: Randal Kleiser What do you get with a fifties love story and a musical put together? Grease is the word! The original High School Musical, 1978 summer hit, Grease, is a classic. Greaser Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Australian good girl Sandy Olsen ( Olivia Newton-John) met during the summer and fell in love. But as the summer comes to an end Sandy has go back to Australia and Danny back to school. One can only wonder what will happen next as they both believe that they will never see each other again. Grease is set during the 1950s in California. As it is an era of Rock n Roll music, cotton skirts, leather jackets, and diners. Who doesnt like the fifties? As the first day of school arrives, popular leader of a leather-jacket gang the T-birds, Danny Zuko goes back to keeping his reputation as he reunites with his friends. But little does Danny know that Sandy is now attending the same school as him, Rydell High School. As she walks onto the campus with her new friend Frenchy (Didi Conn), member of the Pink Ladies and a beauty school drop out, Sand was nervous. In the first song Summer Nights Sandy and Danny both describe their summer they spent together, even though Danny may exaggerate a little to his friends, they do not actually know about each others presence at the school. As Danny is seen as a cool guy that would never be with someone like Sandy, everyone is surprised when leader of the Pink Ladies Rizzo (Stockard Channing) decides to reunite them during a pep-rally. Once Danny and Sandy see each other both are very surprised and happy; but once Danny sees that everyone from the Pink ladies and T-birds, including his best friend Kenickie(Jeff Conaway), are watching he quickly pulls back as he tries to keep his cool guy image. With this Sandy is confused because he is acting like a total different person from when she first met him. What girl would be happy with that? Throughout the movie Sandy and Danny try to work things out as the try to get alone time, go on dates to the local diner the Frosty Palace, go to the school dance, and drive-in movies. Also, Danny and Sandy are two different types of people, so one can imagine what will happen. Do they change their personalities for each other? Many great songs are also included in the movie, such as: Grease Lightning, Hopelessly Devoted To You, We Go Together, and many other catchy songs. Also many fun creative dances are included in the movie, which are very entertaining to watch. I would have to say my favorite part of the movie is the high school dance. There is so much dancing that is way different from dancing now. The actors in the movie I would have to say were great. John Travolta makes a great Danny Zuko with the greaser look and the great dance moves. All the other T-birds members also fit the part with the black leather jackets and greased up hair. Olivia Newton-John is a perfect person for the goody two shoes Sandy Olsen or Sandra Dee as she has the right look and everything. All the Pink Ladies are also just as good as they wear their pink jackets try to get all the guys, and have the too cool for school look. They all also have an awesome fifties look. Grease is an all time classic, and one of my personal favorite movies. It may be old but it is loved by many. There is a great mix of actors and different personalities make it a great 50s movie. With amazing songs, slow and fast, that make you want to dance and sing along. All they eye popping colors and creative dances that blow your mind keep your eyes on the screen. The ending is the best that it should make you smile." by vane14 on Tue Oct 25th, 2011 0 Comments | Reply | Report |
