Synopsis: "Move over, Gilligan: You have company! After Federal Express systems engineer Chuck Noland's (Tom Hanks) plane crashes in the Pacific Ocean, he finds himself fighting to survive on a deserted island with nothing but a painted volleyball for company. An acting tour de force for Hanks (who received an Oscar nod), Cast Away is a fascinating abstract about the human spirit's indomitability." "Good movie, could've used more excitement, though""Well, even with great movies, there's still room for improvement. I love the concept of this movie, but it seemed like it could've used more plot than he's stranded, then comes back AFTER 4 YEARS and end of story. The biggest downer was it just didn't convince me. Even though there are real-life, known stories of a handful of people who have lived for years on deserted islands, I found it very hard to believe that the person in this story had done so. Plus, I'm sure formerly stranded people come back differently like a little more insane, or antisocial, or primitive, or something, but this person was perfectly normal (???). For a fictional story, it wouldn't have hurt to add a little more action like show the perils he had to go through during those 4 years. After the rescue, they could've expanded the story more and made it more emotional and dramatic, but the acting just went flat, almost dead, after that. And there was a little too much information on Fed Ex (more than I needed to know since I prefer UPS for my packages). I will definitely watch it again, but just won't be as excited." by dtachia on Thu Feb 25th, 2010 0 Comments | Reply | Report |
