Synopsis: "Robert Zemeckis directs this film adaptation of the longest surviving Anglo-Saxon poem, an epic tale concerning a 6th-century Scandinavian warrior named Beowulf (Ray Winstone) and his mission to slay the manlike ogre Grendel (Crispin Glover), a descendant of Cain. This film's notable cast includes Anthony Hopkins as King Hrothgar, John Malkovich as Unferth and Angelina Jolie as Grendel's tormented mother." "Review of Beowulf""The movie Beowulf was a very interesting and exciting movie of the brave warrior Beowulf, who was thought to be superhuman. The animations and special effects of the movie were amazing, and I liked the use of the human actors but they were depicted as animated characters. This animation technique allowed the movie to look more realistic; for example, the fight scene between Grendel and Beowulf looked very realistic. The movie was rather different than the book of Beowulf though. The movie followed along most of the same lines as the book for most of the beginning but after the fight with Grendel, the movie took a different path from the book. The book had a fight scene between Beowulf and Grendel’s mother, and Beowulf killed Grendel’s mother. Therefore, there was no curse or relations with Grendel’s mother in the book, which is extremely different than what the movie said. However, I liked the change in plot because it allowed the movie to be a lot longer than it could have been and it served as an interesting storyline for the rest of the movie. The movie still contained many Anglo-Saxon beliefs in it including the importance of Christianity, which was common in the book because it was written down by monks. Overall, except for the love scenes with Grendel’s mother, the movie described the book with a good amount of accuracy. Plus, the quality and make of the movie was very impressive, which can always enhance a movie’s rating. Therefore, because of these reasons, I would give Beowulf four out of five stars." by erik on Sun Oct 10th, 2010 0 Comments | Reply | Report |
