Synopsis: "A going-away party in Manhattan is interrupted when a mysterious monster of epic proportions launches an attack on New York City. With camcorder in hand, a small group of friends make their way out into the chaotic streets, scrambling to stay alive. Mike Vogel, Lizzy Caplan, Jessica Lucas, Michael Stahl-David, Odette Yustman and T.J. Miller star in this frenetic sci-fi thriller directed by Matt Reeves." "I wish there was a number 2!""I totally got the Idea with the whole. Err horror thign. But I wish the number 2 could be what happened not on the vid camera... Just saying BUT I LOVED THE FILM! But it was sad that it werent scary..." by Tcinthehouse27 on Wed Aug 3rd, 2011 0 Comments | Reply | Report"questions and no answers""i am a huge fan of horror and sci-fi. the biggest reason why is the mystery both genres carry leaving people with unanswered questions. i absolutely hate it when people cant like a film if it doesnt answer all of their questions. thats the point! i loved this movie because it left some huge gaps in what was happening and why. i also loved it because it focused on one group of young adults that get caught in the middle of it. no cut scenes to a government lab figuring everything out. thus keeping the mystery and leaving a sense of terror and desperation for the main characters. awesome film and not made for the narrow minded" by loveithateit on Tue Dec 7th, 2010 0 Comments | Reply | Report""Cloverfield is big, it's wild, it's completely unoriginal."""Cloverfield is a movie about a group of three-leafed clovers in a field that get eaten by a hunry bear... or at least you might think the plot would be something like that with a title as misleading as "Cloverfield". Cloverfield tells the story of a young man going away to Japan because his business is moving there... so far so good. His friends throw him a party the night before his plane leaves (with some inevitable girlfriend drama from his girlfriend)... okay, I see where this is going. Then, BAM, let's just say his flight gets permanently delayed when a giant monster "unexpectedly" attacks New York City, destroying some buildings and causing a ruckus... I think I've heard of this before, but I can't put my finger on it... it sounds a tad bit like that Godzilla flick that had Matthew Broderick, right? Unfortunately, yes. Cloverfield is big, it's wild, it's completely unoriginal. The only thing that will make you more sick than the paper-thin plot is the camera-work. The film is supposed to be filmed as a documentary, but that just doesn't cut it for me. The camera shakes the whole time as the protagonist(s) run through subway-tunnels, streets, subway tunnels, streets, etc. Might I also add that the guy holding the camera for 95% of the film is quite possibly the most annoying camera-man ever... I was literally waiting for him to die, and you will be too. He's so annoying, you might as well be playing Left 4 Dead with the AI team-mates... yes, he's THAT annoying. However, if there is one-thing Cloverfield did right, it was the acting. Sure, people screaming, crying in pain and mourning for the loss of their friends as they run throughout the streets of a destroyed city is a job that anyone can do, but these actors do it with such passion that just might make this film worth your time. My final verdict on Cloverfield is that, while it has a paper-thin plot, annoying camera-work (and camera-men), and completely predictable deaths, lines, and action-sequences, it does have very good actors, just so good that you might want to check this film out. That, or if you're just looking for a cheap thriller to watch on a date. Two-stars. Possibly worth renting. (If you're down to watching this movie or playing Left 4 Dead with the AI team-mates... you're choice.)" by mohawkman5 on Sun Oct 31st, 2010 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Youtube style""this movie was basically filmed with a handheld camera, or atleast it felt like it, the movie was okay but you couldn't really see what was going on because the man holding the camera couldn't keep the camera still or simply didn't know what to do. this movie is okay for the first time you see it, the second time you see it its just boring and dull." by lordypordy on Sun Sep 5th, 2010 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Horrible""This might have been the worst movie that I have ever watched. But although how terrible it was I stayed until the end of the movie. Obliviously you can tell that I don't recommend watching it. However, this might be a movie you would want to see if you like odd, somewhat creative, and poorly made films. The only reason I went to see it was that I heard that the film-maker spent a lot of money on it and that it was a really good movie. Whoever told me this told a terrible lie." by Fhroberts on Thu Jun 10th, 2010 0 Comments | Reply | Report"What?""I think the movie was good. i studied into it and i found out that this is supposed to be an americanized godzilla thing. It wasn't at all like that but i enjoyed the high action parts. when they were in the tunnel with those creatures, that had my blood pumping. I wanted to see more of the big giant monster, but what i really really want to know is what happened to the girl that got bit. they took her behind that screen and it looked like she exploded, what the hell happened? what was she infected with? these are the things i want to know. it was a good movie and i recommend seeing it." by Moobywatcher33 on Fri Apr 16th, 2010 0 Comments | Reply | Report"HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!""DONT WATCH IT AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" by texans on Wed Mar 17th, 2010 0 Comments | Reply | Report"The Mystery of Cloverfield.""By the time i write this a majority of the population would have probably seen this movie. I will still try not to give anything away but. Note that this is only my opinion. Well i first saw this movie in theaters and being of the younger audiences i was completely baffled at the stunning cinema work. I gawked and awed at the beast wondering what it was. I all in all enjoyed the ride this movie took me on. Well only for the first time around. I saw again on DVD for a second time and i was somewhat dissapointed. I knew what was going to happen i knew what was there i knew everything. The mystery behind the whole movie is what was the true enjoyable part. In other words i would call this movie a onesy. A onesy meaning the movie is at its best the first time around because when you watch it again the mystery is gone and its like a condom guys you cant use it again." by moviehead91 on Sat Mar 6th, 2010 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Cloverfield""I bought this movie through the ITunes store and watched it on the pod, My perspective of the movie was that there is a mysterious mystic about the movies plot originated from within the movie it self. Movies usually that utilize the use of a camcorder in a beginning of a movie usually are illustrating a larger point of view to come, meaning that the use of such equipment are temporary. Thus, this movie being a could have been a better audience if it had to let go of such directing.Other than that the movies characters seem to be on the run agenda who are really confused, gave the movie a sense of misuse of a potentcial plot builder. I thought the movie showed me a side of movie through the eyes of a person within it literally instead of a more broader concept, which made me feel cheated of feeling a perspective of my own. i know allot of low budjet films like to use this same concept which really have no place in the same venue of movie hits. But after watching the movie , i had so many mixed feelings about the pros and cons about weather or not its worth watching. Final judgment is that the movie gets a grade D+ from me." by Shupes on Wed Feb 10th, 2010 1 Comments | Reply | Report"I couldn't see straight after that movie""I, for one, like it. Sure, maybe there may seem there is no plot but there is one. Escaping and getting Beth is it. The only thing I didn't like was the camera moving around constantly." by MovieChickFlick on Fri Jan 1st, 2010 1 Comments | Reply | Report"Cloverfield""Wow. I had been waiting for this movie since July of 2007. I saw it on the first day it came out after too long a wait on 01-18-08. I have to say that this is without a doubt one of my favorite films of all time. The first twenty minutes is without action and is used to show our characters. Some may find this aspect of the film boring, but I did not in the least. In fact, it helps up the horror in the film and the suspense. It's also great for when you drag your best friend into the theater and he has no idea what this film is about. Once the electricity goes out at Rob's place, the film never let's up. The monster is amazing and profoundly original. The characters and their acting is great. And the film itself is a genuine classic in my book. The so-called problems some people have with the film are the aspects that I find so intruiging. Not only was this film unique in its presentation with a hand-held camera, but its marketing campaign is something to be admired. Viral videos advertising the film and giving clues and insights can be found all over youtube and on the dvd itself in hidden easter eggs. Don't know what the monster is or where it came from? Well, let me SPOIL it for you: The monster is a nocturnal-like (almost resembling a mix between a bat and an amphibian), possibly prehistoric animal that has lived beneath the dark oceans for God knows how long. When a satellite from Slusho! (the Japanese company that Rob is leaving for) crashes into the ocean miles away from Coney Island, the monster is awakened. This event is shown in the film, briefly, at the very end (Rob and Beth are finishing their day at Coney Island when, out on the ocean, a small object can be seen plummetting into the blue, which is the out-of-orbit Slusho! satellite). Also, the monster has not reached adulthood and is most likely an infant of its kind, a lone survivor from extinction perhaps. After its awakening, the creature swims its way to New York City, therefore leading to the events of the film. There are many other theories and speculation as well. All in all, this may very well be my second favorite movie ever. 5 stars hands down." by Jordy on Wed Jul 16th, 2008 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Cloverfield""In 1999, the Blair Witch Project hit us with it's 16mm documentary type footage. Since then, many other films have used the tactic of amateur videography to help display graphic events in a film. CLOVERFIELD is obviously influenced by the aforementioned BWP's "run-and-gun-style filming" to tell it's tale. The tale of young upwardly mobile New Yorkers who witness the devastating destruction of their city by a gigantic, mysterious monster. This attack interrupts a going away party for the lead character, who was to be taking a job promotion in Japan. His best friend had been assigned the duty of recording the party for posterity. He ends up as the de-facto videographer of the horror caused by the villianous creature, and finally, the creature itself. CLOVERFIELD was the name given to the area formerly known as Central Park, where the video tape was found by the military some time later.
CLOVERFIELD the movie is visually stunning. The action sequences are terrific, the monster is terrifying, and the outlook is grim indeed. What a shame then, that the movie is undermined by one of the most elementary considerations in filmdom. It doesn't properly explain who some of these characters are. No one should be expected to do "Homework" on the internet to know and understand a character.
The party scene is long and chaotic, and when it spills on to the street, most of them are never seen again. Obviously there's the hero and the girl he loves. There's a loyal best friend, and a brother. The audience is left confused and unsure of anyone else's motives. CLOVERFIELD loses at least 2 stars from what COULD HAVE BEEN a legendary
sci-fi horror film. " by Batstar on Sun Mar 23rd, 2008 1 Comments | Reply | Report"Cloverfield""The producers and the directors of this assasine movie were either retarded, drunk or were trying to make a low budget movie.....the concept is great, the actors did a superb job...but why torture the audience by hiring a ten year old camera man with obsolete equipment? In the name of being artistic, the entire movie was filmed with a cheap hand held camera...resulting in sudden up and down movements, swerving from side to side, and closeup in and out zooms....this resulted in a MASSIVE headache, my wife and I walked out after only 15 minutes, we changed our tickets and enjoyed another movie in the same hall....bottom line..dont see this movie unless you want a bigger hangover than the last time you were trashed......and to the directors and producers...please get a reality check, we dont want to be subjected to your far out artistic concepts." by sidchand on Tue Jan 29th, 2008 1 Comments | Reply | Report"Cloverfield""I think that Cloverfield was a good movie,1 because the way it was filmed and 2,it had a good story line. You know the classic story line...Guy loves girl, girl loves guy, girl gets traped,so guy saves girl. But for some reason this story line was different,it was realistic,I mean besides the whole monster thing,it wasn't like some stupid movie with a big monster, where there are some teenagers or college students are telling the people in the army or government what to do.No,in this movie the army is only in the movie a couple times, and other then that, there on their own. Also the beginning,I thought was good and was some what humorous.Plus they played Kings of Leon,my favorite band,at the party,so thats an up.And...the monster just looked awesome!...But hey thats just my opinion." by RC=MetsFan on Fri Jan 25th, 2008 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Cloverfield""First off, I have to say that I'm glad that I found this place. Finally, a place to vent! However, I will not vent about Cloverfield. I began to grow very weary of the hype with little revelation of this movie, but I have to say that J.J. Abrams and crew did not disappoint. It's hard to place this movie in any one genre, but I placed it in the sci-fi genre, accordingly. But it made for a great action/suspense movie as well. As for the details of this movie, I couldn't care less where the monster came from. I wasn't thrilled about the little guys running around, and the creature itself, I would like to have at least gotten one good look at the thing for more than a few things. I'm glad Hudd finally got munched, though. No offense to the actor, but his jokes were getting really old, really quick. On the other hand, I was sad that Marlena went *splat*. I liked her. This wasn't the best movie I ever saw, but for me it was definitely a thrill ride. 4 stars out of 5. Sorry, but I liked this movie. " by cygnus on Sun Jan 20th, 2008 2 Comments | Reply | Report"Cloverfield""Edited nicer version :-) I LOVED this movie. I've been waiting to see this since I spent the first 15 minutes of Transformers wondering what that 1-18-08 trailer was all about. I will say that when I buy this DVD (which will be the day it comes out) I can fast forward through the first 15-20 minutes of the movie. Once you learn who the main characters are, you just want to get to the action. But once the action starts, it continues right through to the end. The reasons that many people are giving for hating this movie are mostly the reasons that I admire it. I don't care where the creature came from, I like not knowing if they killed it, and I like not having a full explanation for the events documented here. The camera work is not as erratic as I thought it would be. I got more queasy during the asteroid landing scenes in Armageddon than here. And the creature itself is pretty cool. It's like nothing I've seen before and you can't really accurately describe it to your friends. I expected to not see much of it, but you get many good views from different angles (including a surprising one near the end). All in all, when the movie was over there was dead silence in the theater. Honestly, I'm sure some of that was disappointment or people just not understanding what happened. For me, I didn't want to move just in case the theater staff would let me stay for the next showing. I would call it a great popcorn movie but when it ended, I looked over and realized I still had 3/4 of a bag left because I never wanted to take my eyes off of the screen even for a second. I will be seeing this again this week in the theater and would absolutely rate it as one of the best movies I have seen in a while. It's by no means perfection, but a damn fun movie to go see." by DemonBoy on Sun Jan 20th, 2008 8 Comments | Reply | Report"Cloverfield""This was by far the worst movie i have ever seen... there was absolutly no plot and had no ending. my boyfriend said that he would rather watch the notebook which is a lot considering he hated that movie. i would say that it would not be a good idea to waist 10 dollars on this movie.." by ashley08 on Sat Jan 19th, 2008 1 Comments | Reply | Report"Cloverfield""Okay, I liked/couldn't stand this movie. There was so much hype over it... no explanation of what the monster (if that's even what you would call it) was... where it came from.. how it got to NYC. The trailers practically begged you.. "Just TRY not seeing this movie and see what kind of water cooler talk you miss out on Monday morning." So I saw it. I (like the other reviewer) was disappointed, but I can say that for what it was trying to be... it did it well. It's hard to say more than that without giving anything away. I do recommend seeing it, just so you can have an opinion of your own about it because EVERYONE is going to have an opinion. I also agree with the comparison to "The Blair Witch Project". Very shaky shots... made it feel more "REAL". I honestly think that this film won't reach it's true potential unless and until it has a sequel. ANYWAY. See it. It's worth the $8.50 to be "in" on the conversation. " by Zodiac97 on Fri Jan 18th, 2008 1 Comments | Reply | Report"Cloverfield""Just finished watching this movie right now. I honestly thought it was going to be better. I really don't understand exactly what this movie was about. The " main point"...... is what I'm trying to get at..... The only good thing about the movie is that you feel like your there....The whole movie feels like a live documentary....You can say like the Blair Witch Project...."""footage""" The monster I think was a joke.....Well if your into Sci-Fi/Action movies this is your movie, because there is a lot of that....I don't think I would by the DVD when it comes out....but hey it's only my opinion...I wouldn't recommend it to my friends....That's all I have to say... If you go watch the movie....I guess enjoy it....Don't expect to get scared...." by pro5j on Fri Jan 18th, 2008 3 Comments | Reply | Report |
