"Death Sentence"

" While watching this movie I noticed that it was able to accomplish something some movies couldn't in the short period of time given in the story itself. It allows you to become acquainted with the family the story focuses on quickly but effectively so that when something happens you care about them. The movie stars Kevin Bacon as Nick Hume a father to two boys and husband to the beautiful Kelly Preston. It also stars Garret Hedlund as Billy D. the leader to a gang that is after Nick. Now Aisha Tyler stars in this film as Lt. Wallace and John Goodman is a gun dealer and gives orders to Billy and his thugs.

The film is about Nick Hume's "perfect life" which includes a great job and a loving family, but then in an instant this "perfect life" is taking away from him when his oldest son is killed during a gang initiation. This takes him and throws his life completely out of whack. When he is about to testify against the one who killed his son the lawyer says that they want to scare the defense into a deal that would only get the guy 3 to 5 years in prison. He is not happy with it and decides to not testify and take care of it himself by killing the one that killed his son. By doing this it starts a war with Billy and his gang.

Now that seems like a simple plot and to be truthful it is but the way the story builds the character development so quick and how it pushes the story along it really works. The oldest son is killed not even a half an hour into the film and yet you fell like you had more screen time to get to know him and care that if he gets killed. Kevin Bacon is great in this role and the movie is intense. Some of the action scenes are a little brutal but very effective. The action is almost at the same level of brutal as Running Scared(2006). Its an intense film and I had a great time watching it."
