Synopsis: "Adam Sandler stars as the titular Zohan, an Israeli counterterrorism soldier with a secretly fabulous ambition to become a Manhattan hairstylist, in this comedy he also co-wrote with Judd Apatow and Robert Smigel. Zohan's desire runs so deep that he'll do anything -- including faking his own death and going head-to-head with an Arab cab driver (Rob Schneider) -- to make his dreams come true. John Turturro and Emmanuelle Chriqui also star." "You Don't Mess with the Zohan"" I'm not a big Adam Sandler fan, I find that he plays the same obnoxious jerk in most of his movies. In Zohan he gives a fresh and funny performance for once. The movie is non-stop stupid, yet it's entertaining while it's being stupid. It's not my favorite comedy of last year but I did like it a lot more than I expected. I just think Sandler has a bit of an ego. He always has to plays someone that everyone worships and loves and roots for. When I say that, I mean the people in the movie root for him more than the people watching the movie." by Jim222001 on Sun Mar 8th, 2009 0 Comments | Reply | Report"You Don't Mess with the Zohan""I am a big Adam Sandler film. But Don't mess with the Zohan, was of very poor standards. The trailor show all the funny moments ruining the film. There was the odd giggle involved, but nothing really laughable. If found it long winded and a bit of a bore! " by eastendersrules on Sun Aug 31st, 2008 2 Comments | Reply | Report"You Don't Mess with the Zohan""Adam Sandler's latest movie, You Don't Mess With the Zohan, has a simple enough premise. A famous Military man in Jeresulem, Zohan, decides he doesn't want to fight anymore. He would rather go to New York City in America and cut hair and be a stylist. So, he fakes his death, goes to New York, starts cutting hair, gets found and, and has to make things better. Can Sandler give us another laugh riot on par with Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, or does this fall flat like I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry? Unfortuently, its the latter. Now, I am a huge Adam Sandler fan, I have been for a long time, but this movie was truly dissapointing. After last years critically panned I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, Sandler tries to go back to what made him famous: a very immarture character in a strange situation that will turn his whole life around. This harkons back to the days of Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, but unfortuently for Sandler, it doesn't work this time, that time is long gone. I think he needs to keep doing more things like Reign Over Me and Click, not go back to what made him famous, because it just doesn't work anymore. It reminded me of Will Ferral, who acts like a man child in almost every movie he makes now, but I didn't want to Sandler go back to this. I like his dramadies like Click. That, in my opinion, is where he shines best. One of Zohan's biggest flaws is the story itself. Its so basic, and they try to drag it out too long. This might have worked better as a series of skits of Saturday Night Live, but not here. Because what you get is essentially, the same exact jokes for 2 hours, and it just doesn't fly. Now about the jokes, they arn't very funny. I actually didn't really ever laugh during this movie, and either did the audience that I was with. The jokes fell flat, and some were almost disturbing. One thing the trailers left out was that Zohan sleeps with all the women whose hair he styles, and I guess that wouldn't be such a problem if they weren't all OLDER women, like 50s and 60s. Thats just disgusting. That single handidly ruined the movie for me. I couldn't believe it. It was just so sick, so wrong, and not funny. And he is also staying with this mother and her son, and he sleeps with the mom all the time and they make jokes about it all the time. It just gets old fast, its not funny. Or how about the hillarious gag about them eating hummous all the time? Seriously, all the time, on everything. They only do that joke every five minutes it seems like, yeah original huh? I know Sandler was trying his best to go back to the time that made him famous, but this wasn't the way to do it. I'm wondering though, if I should lay all the blame souly on him. The movie was directed by I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry director Dennis Dugan. Now, I'm not saying his a bad director, but he really doesn't seem to try to help make this movie work. It seems like he just kinda did what Adam wanted, without stepping in and saying 'No, were doing it this way' or 'No, this won't work'. I feel that had he stepped in, maybe things could have been different. And I'm wondering how long Sandler's script actually was, because much of the movie seems like random improv. It just didn't feel like much of it was actually scripted and the director just said do what you want so they did. That makes me a bit nervous. Another thing that bogged this movie down was the cast. No one, and I mean no one shone in this movie, not even Sandler. Maybe its because I couldn't relate to the characters, but I just didn't care about them. Not to mention, I sometimes had a hard time understanding some of them. They all have these accents that make it almost impossible to understand what they are saying, so how are you supposed to get the jokes if you can't understand them? Coincidently, the one actor I actually enjoyed is the one actor I can't stand and thats Rob Schneider. He actually doesn't come off as a complete idiot this time around, and I actually liked him more in this movie than most that I see him in. His hatred towards Zohan for taking his goat away from him years earlier was the only part of the movie I found even remotley funny. One thing to look out for is some of the celebrity cameos in the movie as well. In one other scene I found a little funny, Chris Rock shows up as a Jamacain cab drive in New York. He tells Zohan that he came to America to make enough money so he could bring his brothers and sisters to America so they could live the American dream too. When Zohan ask's him if he succeeded, he replies smiling "No, they all got killed and tortured at home. But its ok, i have my cab." or something along those lines. Little things like this thoughtout the movie could have made it gold, but unfortuently, they arn't, and the movie falls flat. Unfortuently, there really is nothing posotive to say about this movie. Its a bunch of sketchs strung together by a very thin plot that really never goes anywhere and is rarley funny. Adam Sandler just retreads the same jokes for 2 hours until the audience is just annoyed and wants to leave the theater. The directing is mediocure at best and the soundtrack, when it shows up, is so loud you feel like your going to go deaf. I really wanted to like this movie, I did. I love Adam Sandler, but maybe his time is coming to an end? Maybe he should start making more movies like Click, that have a meaning, than things like this. It may be in his best interest. If you are looking for a new good movie to whatch, THIS IS NOT THE ONE!!!
This movie is rated PG-13 it should be rated RRR. This movie shows the main character as a man that is care-less with his actions. If you are planning on taking your child under 17 to see this movie think again, DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This movie has tones of nudity. (Adult only talk), is widely used.
IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO TAKING YOUR FAMILY TO GO SEE THIS MOVIE YOU ARE WAISTING YOU MONEY SO BAD YOU MIGHT AS WELL THROW IT AWAY IN THE TRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After the first few minutes, I knew that it would be a very loooooong movie. The commercials were misleading. It's more about a guy who has sex with women after cutting their hair to bring in business to the salon. It was horribly awkward, and the funny moments took up about a minute of screen time. I would definitely SKIP IT. I found myself occupying myself with the Jr. Mints that I had, instead of watching the movie. I also think that it was VERY crude. It deserved an R rating. There was a fair amount of swearing, though the innuendo made it truley deserve the rating. And I wondered why the theater was empty when we got there..." by furturestar2305 on Sun Jun 8th, 2008 1 Comments | Reply | Report |
