Synopsis: "In the spirit of Apocalypse Now and Platoon, this combat film send-up from director-star Ben Stiller tracks a group of actors who are forced to become real-life soldiers when they're abandoned in the jungles of Southeast Asia. The all-star cast includes Robert Downey Jr. (in an Oscar-nominated role), Jack Black, Matthew McConaughey and Nick Nolte, with an unrecognizable (and Golden Globe–nominated) Tom Cruise playing a crude movie mogul." "Dissapointing""Going to keep it short, this film to me didn't live up to expectations. Personally i was dissapointed that i had paid to go and see the film. Wouldnt reccomend watching if i am being honest." by Ryan17 on Sun May 22nd, 2011 1 Comments | Reply | Report"funny as hell""i thought the movie was funny as hell very entertaining" by sphinx26 on Wed May 18th, 2011 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Tropic Thunder""Hilarious, the cast was brilliant. Ben Stiller and Robert Downey JR played their roles fantasticly and Tom Cruise was insane. Jack Black was also good as a violent drug addict! Steve Coogan stole the show for me, he was superb as the failing director." by jordan on Thu Oct 7th, 2010 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Tropic Thunder""Very,Very,Very,Very,Very,Very,Very,Very,Very, funny film. But... yes there is a but. It is vulgar alot so don't let kids below the age of 12-13 watch this" by weinerfish on Mon Feb 9th, 2009 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Tropic Thunder""Caution to Parents: Leave. Your. Kids. At. Home.
Even leave yourselves at home. This movie is dirty and inhumane in so many ways. I am still surprised with how terrible this movie turned out. I was so excited to see it, but right when it began, i could see the direction it was going. It's one simple-minded story, with a bunch of fart/butt gags. It's explosive, dirty, vulgar, foulmouthed, nonsensical, pointless, weird, offensive at times, and just plain stupid. I mostly saw this because i've become a fan of Robert Downey Jr. since Iron Man, but unfortunately, this movie was not great. I only think this was the best next step, because he proved he can be hilarious by playing an African-American, however, the story of this movie completely sucked. And yes, there are a couple times when the movie is funny, but it really is not as funny as some say. I frankly felt bad for some of the audience in the theater, because at times, i felt they had no idea what they were laughing at. Ben Stiller would act as a retarded geek, and people would laugh. Tom Cruise in a fat suit dances to "Low" and people howl. But it really just wasn't that hilarious. Robert Downey Jr., along with one other African American (who were constantly yelling at each other) were the most hilarious thing about this film. Jack Black obsessed about drugs, and tried to act silly by making people laugh when he farts. Frankly, it was annoying and gross. It's all been seen/done before. Even though the movie's story feels original, the movie ITSELF does not feel original. It could have been done so much better. It also would have helped if they cut out some of the F words that came literally every 2 seconds. No joke, cuss words came flying from every angle at every second. Fart/fat jokes came numerous times and they were sick. Blood and guts were shown many times as well. I realize this is a so-called "War" movie (even though i fail to agree), but did they actually HAVE to include the scene when Jack Black tries to eat some of the blood and guts. It was sick. Not to mention, the opening scene of the movie with the trailers, was not funny at all. It was really stupid. The movie got funnier as it went on, but ended terribly with a stupid, unfunny Tom Cruise dance scene. It really wasn't funny- you'll see. Robert Downey Jr. WAS this movie. Without him, i bet NO ONE would have liked it. I thank you Downey. He wasn't vulgar or gross, but only trying to portray his character in the movie... oh and by the way this is a movie IN a movie, if that makes sense. The story line is rather kindergardener, but still could have been a winner if it wasn't directed in such a vulgar and disturbing way. It really failed, and could have been so much better. I'm disappointed. I really feel bad for all of us who paid for this movie since i heard almost everyone coming out of the theater saying "umm... it was funny, but so stupid." And funny, it's only 40% of the time funny. Ben Stiller's other attempts at directing, such as "Zoolander" were SO much better. I'm surprised because i wanted to see this film for 2 months now (ever since Iron Man) but i was already disappointed 20 minutes into it. Also, many times the movie catagorized things sometimes coming across offensive, such as Ben Stiller's attempt to create a mentally "retarded" man who just so happens to have ugly, messed up hair, hillybilly teeth and slurred speech. You will get a few chuckles, and a few laughs. Really nothing more than Knocked Up or Superbad. But it's so disgusting, nasty, and stupid, you will be turned off.
