"Confessions of a Shopaholic"

"Based off The Shopaholic Book Series by Sophie Kinsella.

I wasn't thrilled with this movie, I haven't read the books so I can't compare but this movie left me bored. I just couldn't get into it. About 30 minutes into the movie I started to see potential, I was starting to get into it, but then it just slowed down again. For a movie based on a girls shopping addiction for over priced clothing, I thought the fashion really lacked. I thought the wardrobe for this movie was a bit strange.

Isla Fisher was in my opinon what kept the movie going for me, or else I probably would have walked out half way through, She did have some great moments and was quite funny. I would recommened this movie to a younger audience. "

"Confessions of a Shopaholic"

"“Chick Flicks” are a dime a dozen, especially when Valentine’s Day weekend is coming up. They all have a similar formula, but can stand alone depending on what they can do with the plot and which actor or actress they can get to be a part of it. Confessions of a Shopaholic manages to keep the story entertaining even if you know how things may end up, and the movie has Isla Fisher who carries this movie.

The story is about a woman named Rebecca Bloomwood. She lives in New York City and loves shopping. She loves shopping a lot. And it is the brand names she is addicted to. Well, she loves clothes and fashion, but does not have the income to support her addiction. So, she finds herself in a massive amount of debt. Rebecca wants to work for a top fashion magazine, but settles on a savings magazine that is all about saving money. So this story goes in to what she has to do to keep her debt secret so her column can gain more success. The only problem is Rebecca does not listen to her own advice.

The is the first movie that Isla Fisher headlines. Most people know her as the “crazy one” in Wedding Crashers, and she provides most of the entertainment and laughs in this movie as well. You find yourself feeling sympathetic towards her character when you know it’s her own damn fault she’s in this situation. Fisher brings some insecurity to her character, but confidence as well. She knows what she wants, but she may not be approaching it in a rational way. But the movie focuses on how materialistic people can be and they lose sight of what is important. For a “chick flick”, this movie does contain a message involving what matters in life, and Isla Fisher helps bring this story to life and the character of Rebecca Bloomwood. Fisher deserves a lot of credit because she made this movie seem different than other rom-coms even when the same formula is still there.

Born to Spend!

By ROBERT WALDMAN

During hard times the tough get going. Only in some cases the true troopers go shopping. Consumers up to their necks in debt get a chance to laugh off the pain in Confessions of a Shopaholic, a delightful romantic comedy from Touchtone Films now making folks welcome at Oakridge Cinemas, Esplanade 6, Empire Studio 12, Colossus and Famous Players Silver City cites around B.C.

Major blockbuster producer Jerry Bruckheimer leaves his stable of action hits and television drama successes behind to embark on a light hearted look at compulsive behaviour. Pity Rebecca Bloomwood. New York stores love her until its time to pay the bills. Known to shop till you drop this wide-eyed lass simply can’t resist a bargain –or dress or accompaniment being peddled by any store. To make ends meet Rebecca stays with daffy girlfriend Suze who sort of encourages this spending spree.

Bad news travels fast and Rebecca’s wayward habits begin to catch up with her. Debts begin to mount and with no real income it’s time for this woman to get a real job or face the music. Even at the best of times job searches can be tricky affairs so with her unique flair for fashion she ends up vying for a journalism position at some upscale magazines.

Wherever this woman goes trouble follows. There’s no telling where her bad habits will take her but she winds up meeting a new man in New York who sort of takes her life in a new direction. Handsome Luke Brandon tries to help Rebecca out and the two become embroiled in an unlikely liason that will set tongues wagging everywhere.

Light and fluffy Confessions of a Shopaholic is based on a series of best selling books. Chemistry is everything in romantic comedies and Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers) is terrific as the girl who can’t pass up anything related to clothes. Handsome Hugh Dancy (Saving Grace) turns on the charm as an executive with both Leslie Bibb (Iron Man) and Krysten Ritter (27 Dresses) terrific as a stuck up model and wacky roommate.

Director P.J. Hogan (My Best Friend’s Wedding) knows how to create romantic moods and the chemistry delivered by Fisher and Dancy clicks big time. For one hour and 45 minutes people will get a kick out of how this story unfolds which pokes fun at big business, the fashion world and our compulsive buying behaviour. Confessions of a Shopaholic is a perfect companion piece to the earlier The Devil Wears Prada and will appeal to those who enjoyed the latter with a great business atmosphere and some very funny and subtle comedic and romantic performances sure to warm your hearts.
