"As a huge Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) follower, I waited for the chance to watch his most recent movie, Race to Witch Mountain. I wasn't expecting much action, violence or adult humor, since it is a movie from Walt Disney. Following other similar movies, Walt Disney offers us Race to Witch Mountain, a plot for the whole family. What is the movie about? Jack Bruno (The Rock), is a taxi driver who is picking up and dropping off passengers to the UFO convention at the Planet Hollywood Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. While picking up and dropping off passengers, he drives off, noticing two children, Sara and Seth sitting in the back seat of the cab. They tell him they need to go to a certain destination and are willing to pay all they have ($15,000) to get there. They lead him to a run down house in the middle of nowhere, the place where Bruno and the kids start being attacked by a "Siphon", a creature built to destroy a certain target in this case the children, They are next pursued by government agencies trying to retrieve the children for experiments. Finally, they are joined by Dr. Friedman (Carla Gugino) at the UFO Expo, who is familiar with outer space and travel, who finally helps them to get to their spaceship and be re-united with their relatives.

Personally, the movie didn't bring the action and humor I expected to get, having such a good cast. There were some scenes that I considered simply boring."

" Space travel is not the sole purview of Star Trek or Star Wars. Trouble hits home when some aliens descend on Earth in Race To Witch Mountain, a delightful family outing from the folks at Walt Disney Pictures now firing up imaginations at Tinseltown (on Pender, free parking), Empire Oakridge Cinemas, Esplanade 6 Cinemas, Empire Studio 12, Colossus and Famous Players Silver City cites around B.C. Played purely for laughs, the energetic 98 minute flick takes viewers on a wild goose chase with just the right amount of bravery thrown in for good measure.

Viva Las Vegas. America’s favourite playground proves problematic indeed for likeable cabbie Jack Bruno. Once upon a time dear old Jack was up to his neck in bad debts. Just when he wants to take the high road away from mobsters this bloke winds up with the fare from hell. Two children decide to “drop” in on Jack and before you know it that yellow cab is taken on an out of state experience as those fares may be from another world.

Skeptical with the idea of chauffeuring around Sara and Seth the big guy sort of accepts the inevitable when the cab becomes the centre of attention for some uninvited guests. Apparently these kids are from outer space and some secret American military organization wants them back. So we’re off to the races as this group does their best to elude the authorities in an effort to get back to their celestial homeland.

Full of zest and slapstick, director Andy Fickman (She’s the Man) lets the cast roll with the punches which will have audiences rolling in the aisles while alternating with holding their seats as all concerned are in for quite the romp. Likeable Dwayne Johnson (Get Smart) again turns on the charm and flashes that million dollar smile as the sad sack driver who somehow comes around to helping this dynamic duo elude what looks like an army of enemies.

Child stars AnnaSophia Robb (Bridge to Terabithia) and Vancouver’s own Alexander Ludwig are awesome as the aliens who take on human form and do their utmost to get home. Lots of science fiction gadgets are on view as Race to Witch Mountain smartly spoofs science fiction fans as we go from Las Vegas to California before going towards heaven in this action packed movie. Comic performances abound in this film which includes a nice bit by Carla Gugino (Night at the Museum) as a scientist and veteran Hollywood producer Garry Marshall (Pretty Woman) as an over the hill space expert of sorts. Add into the mix Ciaran Hinds (Munich) as a by the book spy master and you have all the ingredients for a fun filled jaunt.

Good action sequences, laughs galore, Duane Johnson at his hammiest best and a nice spoof of all things space make Race to Witch Mountain a film well worth enrolling in.
