"This movie stars Emily Browning a girl who witnessed her mother died in a terrible fire. Since her mother passed away, she was brought to the mental hospital. And there the story begins as she narrates what she remembers seeing the night her mother died. She tells everything to the psychiatrist who's in charge of her. The psychiatrist believed that she is ready to go home and so she does. At home she met her father's fiancee, Rachel(who used to take care of her mother). She is uncomfortable with her around, she felt something wrong is going on. With the help of Alex (her sister) they investigated about Rachel. They found out that Rachel was actually Mildred Kemp. They theory was that the fire wasn't an accident and it was Rachel who caused it to have their father all to her self. And they are thinking that she was planning to kill them next. They wanted to get an evidence to prove that Rachel is a bad person. Unfortunately, the night they planned to put the plan into action Rachel managed to drug Alex and failed to do it to Anna too. Anna successfully got an evidence (it was a pearl necklace)and ran to the nearest police station. She explains everything the police officer. And then fell asleep. Minutes later, Rachel managed to drug her too and she carried her back to the house and into the bedroom. Anna sees Alex at the door and signaled her to be quiet, she seems to have a plan. Anna fell asleep once again. She does not know that when she wakes up, the truth will come upon her...

The Uninvited was a very nice movie. The twist of events is unexpected but somehow you can understand it. If you watched it, I am not sure but I think you'll not be able to understand all of it if you did not watch it carefully. i advice you to bare in mind all of the happenings going on to fully understand the movie. :)"

"I always have worries about a horror movie being PG-13. These movies seem to go for cheap thrills and are not willing to show anything. The movie company wants to water down the movie so more people will go to it and the movie can make more money. Well, The Uninvited is PG-13, but it does not go for cheap thrills and shows more than I thought a PG-13 movie could show. Now, the movie is not scary. It has some creepy moments, but it is really a murder mystery. A pretty good one I might add.

The story is about a girl who gets to come back home after spending time in a hospital following her mother’s death. However, the home she comes back to is not the same. Her father is now engaged to her mother’s nurse, Rachel. So, after some visits from her dead mother warning her about Rachel, Anna and her sister do everything they can to make sure Rachel does not marry their father. Or what else she might do. This is the story about the “evil” step-mother for sure.

The people in this movie give it more credit. David Strathairn plays the father and he is very good. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Good Night, and Good Luck. Elizabeth Banks plays the step-mother and she had quite a year last year after being in W. and Zack and Miri Make a Porno. She really plays up being the “evil” step-mother. Strathairn and Banks play minor roles. The two major players are the sisters, played by Emily Browning and Arielle Kebbel.

These two girls make the story believable. They make you believe in the fear they feel. This movie is not really about ghosts, but about a murder that cannot be figured out. As the movie goes along you can piece a few pieces to the puzzle. And the movie keeps the story suspenseful, and even throws a twist in there that you may never see coming. The only way I can explain it is the movie has you going down this one path and then it gets completely turned upside down. After the movie was over, I was surprised on how good it was and how the director kept it from being cheesy or just plain stupid. "

Good actors on occasion get stuck in bad movies. Oh, to be fair, let’s be charitable and say “unfulfilled” forays into cinematic success. Top actor character David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck) plays the proverbial dad in the locally filmed The Uninvited, the newest thriller from Dreamworks Pictures trying to scare up a storm at Oakridge Cinemas, Empire Studio 12, Colossus and Famous Players avenues around B.C.

Pay close attention and you may see shades of The Sixth Sense coming home to roost. Made a few years back in beautiful British Columbia this tepid thriller sees a young teenage girl coming home. Poor Anna has been cooped up in some sort of sick ward after trouble years earlier at her home. Apparently her loving mom met with some unfortunate accident and young Anna went rather overboard. Now she’s back and not necessarily the wiser.

Fresh from the funny farm Anna continues to see bad things in dreams. Once home she connects easily with sister Alex but has lots of doubts about Rachael, good old dad’s new main squeeze. Jealousy reigns supreme in this woman’s heart and not before long she has the knives out big time for Rachael, the rather young new girlfriend.

Father Steven is definitely a stand by your woman type guy and has lots of problems believing the stories his daughter exposes concerning his new live in lover. Sparks fly fast and often in this largely female populated home. Unfortunately the thrills and horror effects are quite mild and lack any real jolts, due also to the unfortunate sound signals that give away too much of the upcoming mayhem, despite it’s none too scary nature.

Lots of female form is on view here with Elizabeth Banks (W) doing what she can as a vixen in training. One wonders just who is the force of evil in The Uninvited. Clearly David Strathairn anchors the film as a male caught between competing female forces with Emily Browning (Ghost Ship) trying to act fearful in this Bowen Island shot 1 hour and 27 minute flick that lacks any real bonafide scares. Rounding out this cast is Arielle Kebbel (John Tucker Must Die) as the other daughter in this piece.

Directed by the two Guard brothers, Charles and Thomas, The Uninvited tries to be a thriller but it’s payoff comes across as rather meek and weak.
