Synopsis: "Intellectual property assumes another dimension in writer-director Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller, in which entrepreneur Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) wields a technology that lets him enter people's dreams and pilfer their ideas. The enterprise sends Cobb and his team -- including engineers Ariadne (Ellen Page) and Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) -- hurtling across space and time, but nemesis Saito (Ken Watanabe) has a notion to stop them." It is a breath of fresh air to see that Hollywood is capable of producing masterpieces, though very few there are. I feel that the importance of film is being lost in the digital age. With 3D and CGI playing vital roles in pleasing audiences, the hard work of writing, scripting and acting is becoming less important in making a successful film - but Inception ressurects these key aspects. Leonardo DiCaprio is in my opinion one of the best actors of his time, and proves this through his portrayal of Cobb. Alongside him is climbing actress Ellen Page who excels her previous acting roles while Marion Cotillard is an exceptional choice for the role of Cobb's trapped wife. Inception is intellectually powerful in its complicated plot but also emotionally powerful as we learn about Cobb's character beneath his work as an extractor. The simple idea of understanding a dream escalates, creating a mind blowing sequence of events. A second viewing may be necessary as the first may leave you perplexed, but beneath its complicated science is very simply a well written film with talented actors playing the lead roles. It is quite possibly the best film I have ever seen, but hopefully is an inspiration to upcoming directors and the first of many more masterpieces to come." by cadi94 on Mon Jul 25th, 2011 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Mind Blowing, Spectacular""This is my favorite movie of all time. It grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go until the ride ends. The cast did a great job, the plot was incredible, the special effects mind bending. Another win for uber-filmmaker Christopher Nolan. The story line wasn't as confusing as most people will tell you though, except durring the first ten minutes. This is also a test of wether or not you have any imagination. If you like it, congrats, you have imagination. And vice versa. The bottom line; this is an amazing thriller, toping the matrix in every way." by JamesH on Sat Jul 23rd, 2011 0 Comments | Reply | Report"A movie about dreams that is a dream come true""If there was ever a time when defining the plot of a movie was difficult, it would be now. Written, co-produced AND directed by the amazingly talented Christopher Nolan ( who also brought us The Dark Knight and Memento ), Inception is a film that literally causes you to sit there glued to your seat, eyes riveted to the screen, heart pumping with excitement and your mind thinking non-stop. The idea behind Inception may seem simple, but the storyline is far more complex and beyond incredible. It's the idea that people are able to tap into others' dreams and either steal an idea from them or plant one. This whole concept evolves into a mind-blowing film. First of all, the visuals in this film are absolutely gorgeous. Everything from the fighting scenes to the dialogue is perfect. Add that with the incredible soundtrack by Hans Zimmer and you are in for a roller-coaster of a movie, with twists that will leave you breathless. Great cast, great story, great film. Their are amazing twists and turns that make you wonder whats going to happen next to the charachters and their minds. The actors were truly great and definitly helped the movie. To me the movie flowed like it was supposed to and was not left wanting more except for the ending which made you choose their fate and what you think happened and that made it interesting but also wonder what truly honestly happened to Cobb and his life. Was he still dreaming? Was it real? Did the spinner stop spinning? It was up to ones self to decide. It also makes me wonder if there will be a second inception. Dominic Cobb is a sharp minded extractionist who makes a living of a modern technological discovery. The main goal with this technology is to capture secret information from ordinary peoples minds, but the goal is rotated 180 degrees when Dominic receives an irresistible offer from a powerful Japanese, which involves inception. After the box office hit "The Dark Knight" (2008) my expectations were great when it was announced that Christopher Nolan was making a film with Leonardo DiCaprio, and he certainly delivers. "Inception" looks good on the big screen and lacks nothing when it comes to the films technological and aesthetic aspects. The films versatile actor ensemble engages with their energetic and well articulated interpretations. Marion Cotillard, Ken Watanabe and Cillian Murphy stands out, while Leonardo DiCaprio continues to prove why he is hired by masterful directors. "Inception" is 220 minutes like the speed of light with thriller, drama, comedy and action, that describes and visualizes the experiences of being awake and in dreams at the same time. Nolan's dream-sight and level of creativity can be associated with "The Matrix" (1996) and "Vanilla Sky" (2001). Though the realm of surrealism is highly nebulous and complex, but even a slight attempt at improvisation can sometimes go awry and open a Pandora's Box, making the task highly improbable and nigh impossible. This facet of reality may pose a handicap to the most gifted of the directors, but not to the genius of Christopher Nolan, who not only dabbles with the concept of surrealism, but also ingeniously blends it with the elements of Science Fiction in his latest wonder named Inception. Nolan created a niche for himself a decade back by unleashing a monster of a movie called Memento. He further substantiated his status by conjuring movies like Insomnia, The Prestige, Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight. His unremitting desire for innovation and uncanny craving to foray into the unexplored realms of imagination deservedly earned him an auteur tag, which gave him the carte blanche that a story-teller like Nolan desperately needs. It's highly apparent that Nolan takes every possible advantage of this liberty while filming Inception. Inception is not only dreamlike, but is a dream in itself and is superior to any other thing conceived on the silver screen. With its entwined layers, the movie for the most part serves as an unfathomable riddle and makes multiple viewing extremely essential. It incredibly does extremely well on both the humanistic as well as the technical fronts. In fact, the balance between human emotions and the elements of Science Fiction is so adequate that it's impossible to separate them. The movie is about a futuristic world where the human mind can be intercepted through dream invasion. Cobb is an expert in the art of extracting information (stealing valuable secrets) from deep within the subconscious in the dream state. His proficiency in extraction is marred by a turmoil that begins with his wife's untimely death. He is forced to live the life of a fugitive away from his children. His only chance for redemption lies with a Japanese tycoon named Saitu, who wants him to do an inception (planting information into someone's mind). In order to accomplish this unprecedented task, Cobb and his team must overcome a labyrinth of unforeseeable challenges, where even a slight miss could trap them in a perpetual limbo. Any further revelation would be remissness on my part as the plot is filled with such intricacies that even expatiation would be incapable of justifying its profundity. Leonardo Dicaprio gives a solid performance in the lead role, following his memorable performance in Shutter Island. He has brilliantly depicted the complexities and limitations of Cobb's enigmatic character highlighting his pain and mental trauma. Marion Cotillard is ravishingly scintillating as Cobb's whimsical wife, Mal. The rest of the cast has given a thorough performance with special mention of Ken Watanabe, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Inception is incredibly brilliant as a movie and is a breakthrough in contemporary cinema. Nolan's creativity and his unparalleled execution definitely make it an object of great cachet, but whether it would become Buñuel's 'Un chien andalou' or Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey' and serve as a prototype for the movies to come is for the time to decide. Irrespectively, Inception is sine qua non not only for an aficionado, but also for the average viewer, who is willing to delve deep enough to savour the delight. PS: One has to imagine it to believe it. 9/10" by murtaza on Sat Jan 8th, 2011 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Christopher Nolan keeps on surprising""'Inception' is one of the most entertainingly clever movies in a long time. The beginning of a new era in movie making""This Movie like most, if not all humans is different, misleading, compelling and a mystery. I think to really grasp the concept of 'inception' you have to mentally be in a certain stage in your life, where you understand that there are many different views in the world. and before you either fall for them or dismiss them, you question every single ideas that is represented to you...generally speaking. for the success of this well choreographed film I commend the director for his witty ability to get his audience to rethink what they've known their whole lives. whilst doing this he gets us to question and investigate his perceived idea that planting a concept in your head when your asleep can affect your actions/decisions when you wake. although this movie is clearly fiction, we are lured into a false sense of security where the director familiarises us with everyday things we unawareingly experience. imagine yourself sleeping on a chair; if someone knocks the chair over and you begin to fall, you wake subconsciously. all the same when you dream about falling off a cliff -lets say- you do wake up or at least jerk, oblivious to the fact hat your in safety of your bed. Nolan uses these ideas to draw us in and we are enabled to relate to them, this gets us thinking that the undo-able maybe is doable. 'Inception' unlike most movies didn't have an essence of a beginning, middle or an end, just a series of events. in most movies the director begins by introducing us to the scenario of the story. He/ She then takes us on a journey where we are completely in sync with the main character and we feel what he feels and we see the storyline's high and low points. where as in 'Inception' Nolan leaves us, I think he does this intentionally; he wants us to comprehend the meaning of the film in our own personal ways. He doesn't want just one storyline he wants as many storyline as there are people watching the film Altogether, 'Inception' is extremely unique and unlike any other film, on screens. personally I think its the beginning of an exciting era, where more material like this will be produced. I really do recommend this film to people; its a new and innovative take on one man's search for happiness. this movie has it all. A light starter of diverse relationships, a wholesome helping of intensity, a pinch of comedy, with a generous topping of action, finished with beautiful graphics. Dom is a specialist at entering people's minds and extracting, or in this case, planting information. The dreamworld is so exciting and unpredictable, that the audience couldn't care less about the actual story line. Here’s a few problems I find with this genre. Was the whole movie a dream? Or a dream about a dream? Or a parallel universe where people dream about dreaming? I was completely drawn into the initial plot and found it to be engaging. I didn’t really care about the action scenes, because I was too engrossed in trying to figure out the deeper meaning. I enjoyed the twenty-minute side shows of car crashes and gun fights but found them to be irrelevant in the bigger picture. I am guessing for some people who don’t want to use their brain, that a good old fashion explosion will suffice. I recently watched Leonardo in Shutter Island and wondered if maybe two movies from the same actor of the same genre would be too much. The only thing that Inception had over it were the action scenes. I felt like maybe it was too much of the same thing. What I did enjoy was Dom’s passion to return to what was important- his children. Themes of guilt, redemption and loss played well to the audience. Really, in the big sceme of things, what really matters in life was returning to them. I know that some people were drawn to the semi-love story between Dom and Mal, as sick as their relationship appeared to be. He seemed to genuinely love her in spite of whatever wacked out stuff he may have planted in her head. The multi-layered themes appeared like a smorgasbord for the audience. What are you looking for? It’s in there. The names assigned to each character were an interesting attempt to help the viewer navigate the maze. As I looked a little deeper, it was like peeling an onion. I am not convinced that when I reach the end that there will be anything left but an idea." by mygodrox on Sun Aug 8th, 2010 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Left in Awe""Have you ever watched a film and wondered what went through the mind of the one that turned an idea into a film? Have you ever sat in awe after watching a brilliant movie? Well in my case, the answer would be yes for both. Though I can tell every reader what the movie is all about; that would either give you a perception on the movie without having you go see it, in turn giving you either high hopes in the movie that you may not enjoy, or really agreeing fully with what I have said; or, you may not understand the my explanation of the movie and not want to go watch it based on that. Well that is not why I am writing this review. I am simply writing this based on the fact that I was left in awe when I was done with Inception, therefore I will rather give my review and not write so much on what to expect from the movie. I have never really bothered giving an opinion on a film, but a film such as this, deserves not only a great review, but an award for brilliancy. If you were to watch the movie, it would not be advisable to watch it with an unclear mind; neither would it be suited for an individual that is unimaginative and is merely looking for a film for entertainment or to pass time by. The film is incredibly complex, which leads me to believe, that there may be some individuals that would have to watch it more than once to fully grasp the idea and in it, the complexity itself. As you begin to watch the film, you feel that it may be a film that you going to end up hating as you do not fully understand it at first, but as it unfolds, you begin to realize the ideology behind the creators of the film and soon find yourself engrossed, not only in the special effects but the complexity and theme of the film. It makes you think of dreams itself and how in depth the creators have gone as far as research is concerned. Many statements in the movie would leave you in wonder at the fact that it may have happened to you as an individual many a time. Though some concepts may be far fetched, the fact that the mind is something no man or machine could ever fully understand will always stand true. And this is what the creators have fed the story on; on this very fact! For if you watch the film you soon realize that they could have stretched the movie on for as long as they wanted to, it’s only the limitations of what we “believe” to be our limits, which would stop them from carrying on. Well there’s that and there’s the fact that no body would really want to watch a movie that went on forever. In any case, by the end of the movie, you would probably be questioning yourself as to whether your life is really real and if you really not in just a thought. While that may be going to deep in thought, it’s just something that may cross your mind. So are you really living your life, or is all this just a dream?" by shido641 on Sat Aug 7th, 2010 0 Comments | Reply | Report"Way over special-effected""Too little story, too much special effects. I am so glad that he took that much time because it gave him the chance to engage the audience in a wholly original movie that never bores us for a moment. Inception stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Dom Cobb who is an extractor of things that people hold sacred from their subconscious. He would get hired from corporations to extract ideas or formulas that would be beneficial to his employer and hurt the person that the idea is being extracted from. Then a wealthy business man offers him a way out of his job by ding a final job that does not include extracting an idea but to implant one into a persons subconscious as if it was their own idea. I don't want to go into any more detail because if I do you still wouldn't understand the ending or even how it got to that point. This movie is damn near impossible to spoil because it would only want to make those interested in seeing the film even more interested in seeing the film. I enjoyed every minute of the film because it has a wonderfully written story and a strong cast of actors that slide into their roles impeccably well that it doesn't even seem like they are acting. It starts off fast paced and never slows down until the end credits roll. Even though I saw the setup for a basic chase sequence that could be filmed into any action film I was still held onto the edge of my seat because of the fact that the film allows you to care what happens to the character. The special effects are well done and if you try to bring reason to what the trailers show you, you won't be able to make sense of things until you watch this great film. Let's just put The Matrix and Brainstorm in a blender, add a pinch of A Beautiful Mind & Alice in Wonderland and just a dash of Avitar. Push the chop button, pour over some unspecial effects and served room temp with a side of popcorn. 2 hrs 28 minutes out of my life I won't get back. I went to bed hoping to dream that I was only dreaming. Where's my dradle?" by Summer658 on Sat Jul 17th, 2010 5 Comments | Reply | Report"Awesome!!!""This will be awesome!
