Synopsis:
"Kathryn Lasky's popular children's books are the inspiration for this captivating animated feature about Soren, a barn owl kidnapped from his peaceful forest home. His abductors bring him to an orphanage, where he must train to become a soldier. Despite the toil and hardships, Soren makes friends, and together the young birds attempt to escape. Zack Snyder (The Watchmen, 300) directs this epic adventure."

"Commendable qualities, hindering flaws."

"Fans of the books may be dishearted by the numerous differences the film has, but all viewers should be satisfied by its heavenly visuals, charming characters and enchanting style. The traditional 'good versus evil' plot didn't really disappoint; it was the rushed and vague style in which it was told. If the story were presented in a more involved, engaging manner, this film would have been a definite contender for Animated Film of the Year. Despite all of this, it would be unwise to say the film's staff was not dedicated in creating a magical spectacle-although it would be safe to say that they were most likely rushed for a decently written script. I personally give the film a 3.5."

"not at all like the books!"

"The movie was ok..but nothing like the books. In the books, Kludd pushes Soren out of the tree. In the movie though, they fall together. also, Soren was not brought to the pure ones, he was brought to a place called Saint Agies. The producers, in my opinion, did not read the books, they read the title and made a movie."

"Good story line; very violent"

"The scenery and special effects in this movie were fabulous. The typical story line of good vs. evil was expected. What wasn't expected was the high level of violence and the unexpected storyline of brother vs. brother (and sister). Of course, good overcomes, but at a very steep price. I feel the rating of PG was too easy - it should be more on the line of PG-13. I would not recommend this movie for children under the age of 13."
