"Did not expect Jake to make such a good persian"

"Truthfully I was very excited with the announcement of a movie from the game, of course I love the games. However when I heard who was playing Daston, like many purist I thought the movie would be a bust. It wasn't until the pictures of his character that I was surprised to see a very convincing Dastan. Then came snips of the graphics which I loved and of course the cake topper it actually followed the style and characterization of the game! Something a western production has had trouble with lately, given Dragonball: evolution, DOA: dead or alive and a slew of others that have not lived up to the success of Mortal Kombat as an excellent adaptation. However, Prince of Persia was very well done, now I'm waiting for them to do Assassins Creed!"

"Jerry Bruckheimer's "next" epic saga turns not so epic."

"The real danger of making a movie out of a video game is not the “sleepless, obsessive and almost zombie-like” fans during Comic Con; it’s the expectations set. Today, Prince of Persia ranks behind Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Pokemon: The Movie in terms of box office sales. So good news: the movie doesn’t really suck. The bad news: it’s not great. But then again we have Twilight as an example of how ratings and box office stats don’t mix well.

The movie is about Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal), a street child-slash-promising parkour, who (for reasons that only a video game can pull off) gets adopted by the King of Persia himself; making him another Prince of Persia…Oohh. Moving on, a few years later, the Princes invade the holy city of Alamut, and the rest is self explanatory.

Okay, I’m not gonna tackle much on the visual effects because it’s purely incredible. Well, special effects from US films are pretty darn awesome nowadays so what’s the point in dwelling, right? Although I have to give credit for trying to retain the video game “feel” of the movie especially during the castle siege. I’d like to say “great camera movement” but not really.

The storyline is interesting (never mind where it’s from). It kinda reminds me of Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves. The movie sets a time bomb of some sort but when you have a dagger that magically turns back time, it becomes a bit useless to ask for a time bomb. Which means: “I don’t care if people died.”

First things first, it was hard for me to pay attention because of all that sexual tension between Dastan and Tamina (Gemma Arterton). There! Moving on, Nizam (Ben Kingsley) already was an evil character before we knew he was an evil character. How? Well, one, it’s in the game. And two, when you see Ben Kingsley in a movie, don’t expect him to be handing out lollipops. Oh snap! Their accent wasn’t really horrible (maybe a couple of notches lower than Alexander) but it couldn’t be highly graded. At least no one’s making fun of it. I’m also a bit confused with Dastan’s character and I couldn’t really grasp his thoughts.

The fight scenes were good although short lived for a video game adaptation. The sets were just picturesque. And that ostrich race was awesome. So, if you enjoyed the video game or if you just want to see Jake Gyllenhaal naked or if you still can’t move on from Io, then you might like this movie.

Oh…and have I told you about the Ngbaka?"
