"I am generally not a fan of prequels. To me prequels often scream of big corporate studios trying to squeze every last dollar out of a dying franchise. Imagine my surprise then with Rise of the Planet of the Apes which not only is a very well concieved and well written movie,but also a triumph of great CGI effects. The seamless CGI used in this movie is simply spectacular, oscar worthy quality and better than "gasp!" Avitar. Also, there is a very understated oscar-worthy performance by John Lithgow in this movie that sort of ties the motivations of the main characters together. I was quite plesantly surprised by how good the movie is- worthy of my Top 10 for 2011."

"I love the whole planet of the apes, the old series (film) in 1968 with Charlton Heston, then the added remake in 2001, directed by Tim Burton, then this film was mind-blowing and the storyline was unbelievably satfisying James Franco was believable as the scientist urging to cure his fathers (John Lithgow) Alzeimers and playing as his girlfriend newly found actress from Slum-Dog-Millionaire Frieda Pinto.

Andy Serkis as Cesaer (the Ape) was brilliant, one thing better than the film was watching how the film itself was made and filmed, watching the silent-exterior expressions of the ape, was like he was in your presence and a cold shiver of reality was a shock when the credits appeared on the screen.

"This movie was great. Even if you haven't seen the original "Planet of the Apes" series (which you should) this movie is still entertaining. The computer graphics are superb, the actors do a good job, and the movie does what it sets out to do. It delivers in nearly every department, except none of the human characters are interesting. All of them are rather bland or unlikable, but the apes are the center of this film, and you'll be rooting for them the whole movie. The action scenes are riveting and exciting and will keep you on the edge of your seat. This movie is definitely worth seeing and is very good, but not extraordinary."

"The monkeys are taking over!

When I saw the trailer for this movie, I thought it was a joke. This was the stupidest idea for a movie ever. This wouldn’t work for the same reason that a zombie movie were we see (slowly and detailed) how a zombie apocalypse would star, because it wouldn’t start. We have guns; moneys do not have guns, so it would be fairly easy to shoot the monkeys. The original movie also implied that apes slowly evolved beyond us, how do you cover millions of years of evolution in less then two hours and still make a good story?

Fortunately this movie proved me wrong in a big way. They focus on how the “rise” of the apes starts, and only shows the very beginning of the uprising. This works surprisingly well.

It’s about Caesar, the first of the super intelligent apes that has been treated with an Alzheimer’s treatment, and the super smart part is a side effect. Eventually he is put into an animal shelter rife with mistreatment turning the ape into a freaking Hannibal Lector. He breaks out, along with other apes in order to take over the world.

This is one of the better character studies I’ve seen this year, and its subject is a monkey. It isn’t one of my favorite movies or anything; I’m just impressed how they were able to turn such a stupid premise into a solid flick and the best planet of the ape’s movie yet."

"I went to the cinema with very low expectations for this film, especially as the trailer didn't really excite me. However, I was completely taken by surprise at how great this film is. Not only are the visual effects spectacular but the story is properly developed with a satisfying conclusion. Andy Serkis's portrayal as Caesar is faultless and deserves every praise it gets.

My only complaint with the film is Freida Pinto's role which is undeveloped and serves no purpose other than James Franco's brief love interest.

This film has breathed new life into a franchise many considered long dead and is the surprise film of 2011. Potential sequels are welcome."

"Hollywood seems to think that a sequel (or any movie for that matter) with digital animation is a slam dunk. This one is an air ball.

Nothing new here; affectionate humans, cute baby ape, sinister adults, apes revolt, ending is rather laughable. This repetitive plot has zero imagination.

Based on the action at the end, the ending makes one wonder....Oh, I get it.... a SEQUEL. This movie (regardless of the hype) is a total waste of time."

"I didn't really expect much from this movie, as I found none of the "Planet of the Apes" movies really lived up to the original. However I was pleasantly surprised.
