The Earth is attacked by unknown forces. As people everywhere watch the world's great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It's up to a Marine staff sergeant and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they've ever encountered before.
A must NOT see save your money. Unless you are compleatly drugged up like the few that say it is a must see. It was GARBAGE and they should make sure that the people that do thease revews are 18 years and up.
I have it here from a rental store and I am going to get my money back for this one.
This movie takes a unique approach to the subject of an alien invasion of Earth by the contrasting use of breath-taking perspectives and putting the station point or point of view, inside a group of marines who are charged with the evacuation of some civilians, who are stuck "behind enemy lines", so to speak. The suspense is a big part of this masterpiece of science fiction, which also boasts an interesting storyline. The special effects are jaw dropping and worth the price of admission, on their own.
The one flaw that this picture does have, in my humble opinion, is the jerky cinema verite or shoulder mounted camera, almost throughout the entire film. Don't sit too close to the screen or you might get nauseous.
This is a great action film with solid acting perfomances. It is actually one of the best action films to hit the big screen in a while. It takes a different perspective on the alien invasion scenario in that it focuses almost exlcusively on the military figthing with the creatures. Think... Black Hawk Down meets Independence Day. You should not go into it expecting anything particulary ground-breaking or any Oscar-worthy performances. And, sure, the film has it's share of cliches, but nothing that stands out as particularly problematic. What you can expect is an edge of your seat, non-stop, intense, and engaging film. This particular alien invasion movie gets it right for a change. The alien invaders, appearance-wise, were not the most impressive bunch of creatures but they sufficiently served their purpose as targets. If you are one who overthinks a film, you could find some arguable flaws. For instance, the unlikelihood of a race of extraterrestrials that can travel the vastness of outer space but for some reason still use rather conventional (and more importantly for this film, "defeatable") warfare tactics. However, it would be a different film otherwise so I digress. Bottom line, if you want to see an awesome action with solid acting then this is an absolute must see.
First take I thought it was a satirical action comedy, like Airplane or Hot Shots. BUT then I realized it wasn't suppose to be a comedy, I think, still not sure. Must be a comedy and a pathetic attempt .The reality, Aliens have taken over LA, I mean Hollywood. Really!, They must have made this movie to throw us off track. I hope that is the excuse!!!!. The aliens (Hollywood) complied and used the absolute worst from all previous alien motion pictures. Every terrible cliche', worst dialogue, lost continuity, no real content, and no imagination! Talk about beings from another planet, apparently the people who THREW this together are from another galaxy and not in touch with the human race. Come down to earth! This piece of film, is a real Battle of your Mind, trying to find entertainment value for over an hour and 1/2. Its worst than brain freeze. At least brain freeze goes away quickly, but with Battle of Los Angeles, maybe in a decade or two, I can learn to forget the agony of sitting through mindless dribble.
