'Blood Diamond' is the story of Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio), an ex-mercenary from Zimbabwe, and Solomon Vandy, an fisherman (Djimon Hounsou). Archer uses diamonds as payment for weapons. He met with Solomon, who tells about his find gem, which he has hidden risking his life. This diamond can not only save his wife and daughters for a life as refugees, but also save the life of his son Dia who is a child soldier with the rebels. The story is set amid the chaos and civil war that Sierra Leone was embroiled in the nineties. I realy like the film and i think that it was an emotional movie. It is really worth watching.
i would of rated this film a 4 if leonardo dicrapio didn't ruin it with is poor acting, leonardo tries to put on a south african accent through out the whole movie which just gives a pain in your arse. the movie is very emotional and well acted from the other actors, good story, good plot. its directed well and given a good prospective view in the eyes of south africa, if you're a fan of emotional, massive climax films then watch this. but if you went looking for an action film thinking that this is action packed, well you'll be disappointed.
This film is definately worth watching! It contains a few disturbing/graphic scenes but nothing people couldn't handle. It really gives you an insight into where these diamonds come from and how far people will go to get them. If you're after an action packed film with a bit of 'reality' thrown in then it's definately worth a chance and in my opinion, Leonardo DiCaprio's attempt at a South African accent is definately worth hearing :)
4/5* - Great film!
