A race-car driver named Bandit makes a bet that he can transport an illegal shipment of beer from Texas to Atlanta in under 28 hours. Along the way, he picks up an unwilling bride-to-be, furthering his chances of being arrested. It turns out her future father-in-law is Sheriff "Smokey" Justice, and his boy is waiting for her at the altar. A car chase ensues as Smokey scours the South in pursuit of Bandit.

From a purely critical standpoint there many reasons why Smokey and the Bandit should be considered a terrible movie. Yet re-watching the movie this rainy weekend with my family, I am reminded that sometimes, a movie can be entertaining wihtout having to be a critical darling. This movie takes me back to my childhood which cars were cool and The Bandit was even cooler. And Jackie Gleason was never funnier than he was here. Admittedly both my wife and I can quote almost every single line in the movie, and for a rainly day, it was a great trip down memory lane with our kids who now know all about The Bandit.
