Alexandre Dumas epic tale of freedom and revenge moves this 19th century story through constant action, suspense, surprise and ultimatly love.
James Caviezel plays Edmond Dantes, who's love for Mercedes is all he cares for. Upon his wrongful imprisonment into the Chateau D'lf, he spends 13 years befriended by a Saint, planning their escape, and for Edmond, his revenge.
Edmond does indeed escape in classic style, finds buried treasure and is befriended by the pirate Jacobo. Together, they weave themselves into the lives of their adversaries, leading up the climactic finale.
With solid acting from Guy Pearce to match that of Caviezel, and Richard Harris in a cool as usual performance, the movie is believable and emotional. The direction is supurb, and the story stays fairly close to Dumas original. Be sure to watch this. 3 and 1/2 Booms.
