A pretty good role for Leonardo DiCaprio. He should cut the accent because it doesn't make his characters more complex like I'm sure that he's hoping for. At least it wasn't as bad as it was in Blood Diamonds. Tobey McGuire's character is really kind of bland in this film but he still pulls it off. The one bad part about the film is the ending. Not the way that the film should have ended in my opinion. Watch this one because it's better than you might think. 6/10
When I first saw this movie, I love it. In a queer perspective, however, throughout the movie, I kept getting this feeling that Gatsby and Carraway were secretly having a relationship. The way Nick would talk about Jay in his writing made it seem as if he some type crush towards Jay Gatsby.
The Great Gatsby is an overall decent movie with some hits and some misses. The music selection for the film is an interesting one, rather than playing music from the 20's, Luhrmann chose to incorporate musical notes by Jay-Z and Beyonce. Some may find this creative and absolutely love it, while others may find it distracting and misplaced. DiCaprio puts on a great performance while the others just seem a bit one dimensional, not due to any specific fault of their own. Nevertheless, the film is enjoyable and worth watching.
