The Other Guys
60 % by 10 users
(2010)

NYPD detectives Christopher Danson (Johnson) and P.K. Highsmith (Jackson) are the baddest and most beloved cops in New York City. They don't get tattoos, other men get tattoos of them. Two desks over and one back, sit detectives Allen Gamble (Ferrell) and Terry Hoitz (Wahlberg). You've seen them in the background of photos of Danson and Highsmith, out of focus and eyes closed. They're not heroes, they're "the other guys." But every cop has his or her day and soon Gamble and Hoitz stumble into a seemingly innocuous case no other detective wants to touch that could turn into NYC's biggest crime. It's the opportunity of their lives, but do these guys have the right stuff?

Though its not will ferrells best performance. This is still a good movie. It is also nice to see mark whalburg in a funny comedic role like this instead of his more action/drama roles.

Rediculously Stupid Movie

Reviewed by rnat

Anyone that rated this movie 4 stars cannot be a real person. I cannot believe Mark Wahlburg agreed to be in this movie. Whoever wrote the script should be in a mental institute. It is just like every other horsecrap movie that Wil Ferrell has ever made - Awful, not remotely funny - ignorant!!!!!!

I laughed until I was sick!

Reviewed by darlingdiamond

My husband and I watched this movie last night and thought it was one of the funniest films we have ever seen! We laughed so hard, we had to keep reversing and replaying it because our laughter was drowning out the dialogue. We're not big Will Ferrell fans and just couldn't imagine Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg together but what a dynamic duo! On a scale of 1 to 5 stars, I give this movie 3 stars for the story line and a 5+ for laughs.

Mckay does it again

Reviewed by Jayrock86

So I really enjoyed this movie I was holding my stomach so hard. My favorite part is the tuna against the lion and Will Ferells ending line there. "Did that go the way you wanted --- Nope" Mckay directed some of my other fav Will Ferrel flicks such as Talladega nights and Step Brothers(Love iT!) I really liked it but i guess if you don't like Will Ferrel or Marky MArk playing a more funnier role then this isn't your cup of joe. But for all Will Ferrel fans add this to the collection. I Love Will Ferrel!!!

An Action Comedy that Delivers Both Action And Comedy

Reviewed by moviemantilidie2287

I action comedies a lot but one of my problems with them is that sometimes either the action will over power the comedy or the comedy will over power the action. When I go to see this kind of film I like to have both of those elements be in the film enough to entertain the audience and on that note this film does exactly that.

The Other Guys is an action comedy that is laugh out loud hilarious with well choreographed action sequences. It has that perfect blend of action and comedy that allows yo to remember what a really good action comedy is supposed to be like.

The film stars Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrel who are basically paper pushers while two cops get all the cases that results in shootouts, car chases and saving the day. Those two cops are played by Samuel Jackson and Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson and the little time they are on screen is absolutely hilarious and action packed with a couple of over the top action sequences. Now once they are out of the picture Mark Wahlberg's character wants to take the spot of the two cops but Will Ferrel doesn't want to he just wants to sit at his desk and do paper work. Once Wahlberg convinces Ferrel to hit the streets on a case it turns in to a buddy cop action comedy that does not stop delivering the laughs and the action until the end credits roll.

This movie works well not just because of the main characters but because of the supporting cast as well. You have Michael Keaton play the police captain who is funny with the dialogue that was written for him. Also you have Eva Mendes as Will Ferrel's wife who sings a pretty funny little song. Then of course as I mentioned earlier you have Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson playing their roles very much over the top but that is what makes i funny. The film to me seems like it is a parody to action films without having to go down the road like the horrible franchise of the scary movies parodied scary films. It puts the cast into very much action scenarios yo have seen before and amplifies it by 10 times to give an over the top action comedy that uses that to make the move hilarious.

Also let me just say that when I went to see this I was afraid that Mark Wahlberg was the wrong person to cast playing off of Will Ferrel but he was quite funny and at times it even seems like he is doing a funny parody of his Oscar winning performance from the Departed. Anybody who is a fan of action-comedies and Will Ferrel will enjoy the hell out of this film.

Wahlberg - The angry cop

Reviewed by chelano

Ok first off I will say that the story was just ok. But that usually happens in comedies. So you have to rely more on the film trying to make the viewer laugh. If you are a fan of Will Ferrell's comedy and Mark Wahlberg, then you will pretty much laugh throughout the film. Ferrell really gets to act like himself in this film. I mean he is playing a character, but he gets to use his typical humor. Wahlberg plays a really angry cop and some of the things that come out of his mouth will really get you laughing. I actually laughed more at Wahlberg than Ferrell. Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson are in the film a bit as the head cops; like a newer Starsky and Hutch. They were entertaining. Eva Mendes plays Ferrell's wife and she is actually entertaining. Then the chief of the police station is played by Michael Keaton. Throughout the movie he kept quoting from the group TLC. He was actually also pretty funny. You will find yourself laughing a lot throughout the film. But there are some parts where they do try to be serious and most of the time it can be a turn off in a good comedy. There are some great one liners and scenes that will stick in your mind. So a pretty good comedy and I will end by saying, I want to see Mark Mahlberg do more comedic roles, because he is pretty good in them.
