I had to make the difficult decision whether to give this movie 3 or 4 stars. This movie definitely has a M. Night Shyamalan feel but definitely better written than his last couple of films. The idea is pretty original with a very interesting character background aspect. Since this movie only contained five or so characters, it was utterly important to make this interesting. I am not a big fan of Ashley Judd's acting ability, but she really embodies the down-on-your-luck and I've-wasted-my-life persona. She definitely had the look down and her lines were written pretty well. When she cries, however, I expected the lights to come on and someone yell, "Cut!"
The big question, which is the focus of the trailer, is whether or not they are infected; or what they're infected with. It becomes pretty suspenseful waiting for these answers, but the movie starts to stumble as the answers get near. Michael Shannon acts very well in this movie, but he abruptly changes somewhere in the back half to a totally different character. Maybe this part was planned based on the assumptions they make near the end, but I really wanted there to be a little of the old character. I also felt a little disappointed in the interactions between his character and Harry Connick, Jr.'s character.
Overall, this movie is a good conversation piece and mostly well-acted. The movie itself could have been PG-13 but the sex scene was pretty prominent. The ending just left me with more questions. "Bug" isn't a waste of time and is entertaining to discuss it afterwards. Expect something like "The Village."

this had to be one of the worst movies i've seen in a long while...
the trailer(s) for the film make it seem as if there are some kind of actual bug or bugs that are trying to kill these people from the inside out, but thats not the case!
they are imaginary "bugs" that the two main characters think are inside them and all around them.
1st these people think the government is doing this, then they think its her ex-husbend and her best friend, then they think they have robots after them... the whole movie was pointless and an excuse to get Ashley Judds clothes off. i wish i could get back that 2 hours of my life that i wasted on this film. Trust me this is a big waste of time!
Nice writing, I feel like I'm talking to a film buff, not reading a review in "people" magazine...
Unlike hundreds of haters, I liked the "simplistic" themes and genuine suspense of "The Village", so if its close, I want to check it out...
I think the "vague" ending is getting a bit cliche though, they go 50/50 for me lately...
You must be a true 'King of Horror' to have written this so well.
this movie looks pretty freakin cool i think ill rent it when it comes out on dvd
