"The Lookout" is one of those movies that slips through everyones fingers. In a year dominated with sequels, prequels and remakes it's easy to lose sight of films like this one. A semi independent suspense thriller that is exciting humorous and exceedingly enjoyable.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as a young janitor in a bank. A once promising young high school student whose life is shaken and forever changed by a horrific car accident. He now works as a janitor and has an aspiration of becoming a bank teller in the near future. The reason for such modest goals is a mental condition, which aside from the guilt was the only thing that stuck with him after the accident. He is unable to sequence events in his life and thus has trouble dealing with the simplest of things. He lives with a blind man named Lewis played brilliantly by Jeff Daniels. Lewis dreams of once owning a diner, and is trying to get a loan from a bank so that he and Chris (Levitt)can run it together.
However they are in for a change as an old High school acquaintance, a girl, friendly cop and a handful of shady characters enter Chris's life. Complications ensue and Chris is left fighting for much more than just his sanity. This is a thriller that is intriguing, superbly acted and craftily written... and guess what? It's on dvd, and definitely worth a buy.
