Edited nicer version :-)
I LOVED this movie. I've been waiting to see this since I spent the first 15 minutes of Transformers wondering what that 1-18-08 trailer was all about.
I will say that when I buy this DVD (which will be the day it comes out) I can fast forward through the first 15-20 minutes of the movie. Once you learn who the main characters are, you just want to get to the action. But once the action starts, it continues right through to the end.
The reasons that many people are giving for hating this movie are mostly the reasons that I admire it. I don't care where the creature came from, I like not knowing if they killed it, and I like not having a full explanation for the events documented here. The camera work is not as erratic as I thought it would be. I got more queasy during the asteroid landing scenes in Armageddon than here.
And the creature itself is pretty cool. It's like nothing I've seen before and you can't really accurately describe it to your friends. I expected to not see much of it, but you get many good views from different angles (including a surprising one near the end).
All in all, when the movie was over there was dead silence in the theater. Honestly, I'm sure some of that was disappointment or people just not understanding what happened. For me, I didn't want to move just in case the theater staff would let me stay for the next showing. I would call it a great popcorn movie but when it ended, I looked over and realized I still had 3/4 of a bag left because I never wanted to take my eyes off of the screen even for a second.
I will be seeing this again this week in the theater and would absolutely rate it as one of the best movies I have seen in a while. It's by no means perfection, but a damn fun movie to go see.

By no means did I rip on this movie. It's good for what it is. But like you said in your review... you like not knowing where it came from and not having any resolution. Most other moviegoers prefer to have things answered rather than having to wait to spend ANOTHER $8.50-$10 to find out the answers they wanted for their first investment.
I agree with you completely about what most moviegoers are looking for. Perhaps my wording was wrong and I do apologize for my comment regarding ripping on movies. I'm just happy that they went this way and didn't cop out on the ending by explaining everything in some Hollywood cliche manner :-)
That movie was amazing the only question I had was "Why?" why did the monster attack? and why on earth is this movie called cloverfeild?
The monster was released by the government as an expiriment. Cloverfield was the name of the operation. Remember @ the end. OPERATION: CLOVERFIELD
Okay to everyone that says they don't know where the monster came from you obviously didn’t watch the ending because in the end in the Coney island scene when it shows the ocean in the far back you can see a giant meteor hit the ocean, thus it came from space. The director and writer both said that’s what it was to. The movie was good not one of the best movies but I would give it an 8 out of 10 it was good. Also to anyone that said the camera made you sick it didn't even shake that much, that guy had a great hand. Thing that made me not give it a 9 or 10 is because it was to short. It is time span of 7 hours in the movie, but the real movie is 1 hour and 20 minutes long and for the first 20 minutes THERES NO ACTION! So I would make this a review but still al little to short. Good review.
