Who decided to make this book into a movie. This movie was described as a futuristic society; bombs going off from who knows where, rebellious hooligans and troops doing unending battle with each other amidst a society where the reproduction process is a thing of the past and no one can explain why; a futuristic thriller as described by the New York times. The premise of the movie takes place in London 2027 and finds our heroes protecting the only young woman in this civilization who gets pregnant. Society has not had a pregnancy in 18 years and the youngest human who happened to be 18 died; a report which was televised and left countries in shock and mourning. Anyway, the pregnant woman is to be safely delivered to some type of organization called "The Human Project", whatever that was, the movie was unclear on this or whether such a organization existed. The hero of the flick has the dubious task of protecting the young mother and get her safely to this organization. Within the chaos of fighting, bullets, explosions, endless killings (it was like watching Vietnam), our hero takes matters into his own hands, risking his life to save this young mother to be. Okay, I will not spoil it for the "brave souls" who wish to pay their good money, make the journey into the theatres and sit through this stuff, but perhaps the original intent of this movie may have been good but somewhere between the screenwriting and the movie credits, something got lost. A thriller, it wasn't and it took a while for me to at least sit up in my theatre seat and start taking interest, what interest I had. The only thrill I had was sitting next to my date as we both attempted to get through this garbage. Maybe the fighting would keep others focused, but if it was warfare I wanted to see, kindly give me repeats of Private Ryan, Flags of Our Fathers, etc. which will do just fine. Hats off to Michael Caine. I always enjoy his performances. If the goal in this mindless want to be thriller is to kick the reproduction process into gear by saving this woman, Children of Men should be re-titled Children of Misery since giving birth to a child in a world rattled with such chaotic turmoil would certainly be the case.

Bummer, I was really excited to see this, and for my sake I hope your an idiot. But, your writing seems to prove otherwise. The trailers made the movie look good, but that can be done with about any movie. I've always liked Clive Owen, how was his performance?
Hey "Flyingnowhere",
Put the "idiot" cap on me for this one. I have no idea who Clive Owen is but if he is the hero which I am assuming, his performance was tolerable. And as you say, I was excited to see this movie myself. I chanced it even after friends who had seen it gave me a thumbs sideways and answers such as "talk to me after you see it" when I asked them about how it was.
Ha, wow.
Maybe I'll just wait till it gets to the cheper movie theatre. Thanks!
