Pan's Labyrinth is a spanish speaking movie based during the Franco Dictatorship which was basically a depressing time of suppression under the catholic church and government. It's based after the spanish civil war when the Franco Government were hunting and killing the rebels, so if you plan to see it, you won't get lost in the story line.
My favorite thing about this movie is how you can't tell wether the fantasy scenes were really happening or just from her mind.
This movie, from the same guy that did Hellboy, is centered on a little girl and her fantasy land she uses to escape her reality, which is living through war in a home where her new "dad" is an evil captain that doesn't like her.
IF you plan to see this movie, don't take younger children because it "it aint all rainbows and sunshine." There are beautiful fantasy lands and characters with some fantasy story lines, but that kinda gets balanced out with the realistic scenes of brutality and gore. But other than that, this movie is fantastic and i recommened anyone who doesn't mind reading subtitles to go see it immediatley.
