I might have enjoyed this movie more if I hadn't been sitting there the whole time worrying about the effect is was having on my seven-year-old daughter, and fuming about how I'd been tricked into thinking this was a family movie.
The whole tone of the movie is dark and creepy - complete with gunfire, a violent tantrum, characters set on fire, and a fight to the death. It didn't help that every other scene had expletives that were changed to the word "cuss" in order to avoid a PG-13.
There were a few half-hearted laughs thrown in there for the adults but not much for kids to enjoy. And yes, the animation was fascinating and the music fun, but it all seemed wasted on a predictable plot.
