Name: Derek B
Bio: Movie fanatic. I'm usually pretty lenient, even bad movies I give a chance.
I was highly anticipating this movie. I love RDJ and the Marvel universe. The first time I watched it in theaters I was somewhat disappointed. Maybe because I wasted my time watching it in 3D? Anyways, I bought the movie anyways seeing as I'm a film collector and the more I watch it, the more it grows on me. You can tell this was a big-budget film by the flashy special-effects, which were nice. The villain for most of the movie, The Mandarin, was actually pretty badass. I liked him a lot better than the actual villain that came about. I didn't care for the fact that Iron Man was basically non-existent in nearly the entire movie or the fact that he suddenly became as destructible as a sandcastle in high-tide. The humor, of course, was in full effect which is a big reason I love Marvel movies. CGI in the film was very decent, though, not as intricate as say Dark Knight Rises. Overall, and maybe I'm biased, but a very good movie, just would have liked a little more Iron Man and a little less Pepper.
I'm not really sure why they felt the need to make this movie. Maybe to boost Jaden Smith into the spotlight? At any rate, this movie is not very good at all. I'm a huge Will Smith fan, and I was very disappointed that he took on such a role. The storyline is decent, but executed poorly. CGI was the only bright spot in the movie. And the accent?!? Why?? Why Will Smith? Why?? If you're super bored and have nothing else to watch, pop it in, but don't make a point to see it.
Without a doubt one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. The movie had a lot of promise in the beginning, hell, I might even say it was kinda scary, but the ending was one of the biggest pieces of filth I've seen in a movie. I thought they were f*ckin with me at first. I would not waste any time, money, or brain cells watching this movie again. I am now dumber for having watched it. I award it no points, and my God have mercy on my soul.
I could sit here and bash this movie, because that's what I really want to do, but I'm not going to because there were some funny parts throughout the film. The story is very stupid and there's really no reason to make this film other than to ride off the success of movies like the hangover and Project X. I think also this is a film that was ruined by the previews because they put all of the funny parts in the previews so there really wasn't any surprises when it came time to watch the film. I'm giving it a gracious 2 stars simply because of the epic robot he does.
If you like the show jackass, you will probably like this movie. It definitely has some hilarious parts, but the overall story of the film was kind of confusing. I'm glad Johnny Knoxville went back to his roots, because that's what he does best. I wouldn't say that this is and Oscar-winning film or anything, but I went in with realistic expectations and I wasn't disappointed. It's worth a rent on Redbox, but I probably wouldn't rush to stores to buy it.
