This film shocked me by how well it was made and by the great performances of the cast. Now I don't usually say this but Colin Farrell who is a main character does a great job acting in this film, better than any other films he has done. Brendan Gleeson is another main character and he does a great job like he does in all the films I have ever seen him play in. These two guys play hitmen who are sent to Bruges, Belgium and they are histerical. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson play off each other so well that it doesn't seem like they are acting, instead they are just being themselves. Now the first two thirds of the film it is all about these two but in the last third of the film their boss goes from being just a voice on a phone to a person you see who is played by Ralph Fiennes.
Now the film is about these two hitmen Ray and Ken(Farrell and Gleeson) who complete a job and it goes intensely wrong. So their boss sends them to Bruges to hideout because its a place where no one would look for them. Now they are able to do whatever they want to as long as they lay low and don't cause any problems. So the film shows them both taking a completely different look at Bruges where one of them loves to sightsee and the other could care less. Ken(Gleeson) buys a guidebook and wants to tour the city while Ray(Farrell) wants to go on dates and watch movies being filmed. Now their boss Harry(Fiennes) calls and tells one of them about a job he wants done and the person's decision is what makes the plot work for the rest of the film.
As I have said before I am not one to spoil a film so all I will say is that this movie is great because instead of following typical hollywood guidelines of how a movie should develop a plot and end a film it takes the characters and use them to shows us the plot. This film works on the characters shown to us and use the way they put themselves into and out of situations to bring us into the conclusion. The climatic ending happens what would seem naturally from the characters actions instead of being forced there. There are a lot of points in the movie that are gut wrenching from showing us what these men did. Not too many films can make the characters develop the plot instead of the plot developing the characters or not developing them at all. This film is a great action comedy and it is hilarious at times and tough to watch at others but only because of the situations not because the film lacked any thing.
This was a movie that I had missed in theaters and I am glad I did. This film had a lot of great ideas that make you think but they just couldn't make it work.
The movie is about two regular kids who live in Seattle and there is nothing special about these kids until they find a box in the ocean. They open it up and find several pieces of rock that is unknow origin to them and a stuffed bunny. The kids try to figure out what to do with items and while they were doing this they become smarter and they learn what they are supposed to with the items. While putting some of the items together they cause a blackout that is believed to be done by terrorists. The point of the children finding these items is because a scientist from another planet sent out a numerous amounts of the stuffed animal called Mimzy to find people to help them save their planet from being taken over from darkness that are within them. The Mimzy that the two children find is called the Last Mimzy being the fact that if no one returns that one then the people in the planet will be killed and taken over by evil.
The movie should of been a lot better because of the ideas that they were trying to show the audience but got taken over by typical family moments that make the movie more for kids. If it worked for both audiences(adults and children) then the movie would have been better but it turned into a movie that only little kids ould like with a lot of idea that are beyond their understanding.
This movie didn't make me very interested in seeing when the trailers were all over the t.v. but now that I have seen it I am not disappointed with it at all. This is a great family fantasy to watch with your kids or even if you don't have kids. I was actually quite surprised with it. The film stars Christina Ricci, James McAvoy, Catherine O'Hara and Reese Witherspoon. The performances are much better than I thought they were gonna be and the story is really packed with everything you need to close the story successfuly. James McAvoy once again proves why he is hollywood's hottest new actors by delievering a sweet performance and Christina Ricci shows that she can still do some good acting. Reese Witherspoon is funny in her role.
Now there is a pretty descent story and it is about a woman who is kept in hiding by her overprotective parents because of a curse that ran in the Wilhern family for generations because of Penelope's great grandfather. Her great grandfather had slept with a maid that was working for his family and she was pregnant with his child so instead of marrying her he married some other woman and the pregnant lady killed herself. Now that lady's mother was the town witch and cursed the family so that the next girl that was born with Wilhern blood will have a pig face. Penelope(Chistina Ricci) has to marry a person from a rich family to break the curse but can't because everyone leaves when they see her face. All run except one Max Campien(James McAvoy) and the rest can become a little predictable, but if not I don't want to ruin it for those that are going to see the movie.
Now the film is pretty good and the story pretty well written and I definitely recommend that you watch it with your family because at the end theres a moral to be noticed. This film is great family fun.
This movie I was excited about seeing because I love films that are about controversy and showing you the darker sides of the United States. This film was great and has a great cast to push the story and the suspense along. The cast consists of Jake Gyllenhaal, Reese Witherspoon, Peter Sarsgaard, Alan Arkin and Meryl Streep. Great performances in roles that demanded it in order to make the movie a success for itself. I only say that because it did not do great in theaters but still a great film anyways.
Now the story is about a man who was born in Egypt but has lived in the United States for twenty years with a proper greencard and because of where he was born he was abducted for terrorism. He was then brought to some other country to be tortured until he gave up the information that they wanted to hear. Now back in Chicago is his wife played by Reese Witherspoon and she is desperately trying to find out where her husband is and if he is okay. So she asks for help from a friend who happens to be the assistant for the senator played by Peter Sarsgaard and the senator is played by Alan Arkin. So he is trying to find out what happened to him and finds out that he is being held against his will by the authorization of Meryl Streeps character. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a rookie CIA agent who is to oversee the interrogation and to obtain information.
The film is greatly acted and directed intertwining people whose stories don't seem to fit but in the end it all falls into place. I loved how they made it work because if they couldn't pull it off it wouldn't have been such a good film. Once you see everything match up the film becomes much more apperciated. Definitely a winner and is a must for all drama suspense fans.
This movie is just what you would think it is based from the commercials, a typical action film. Taking that into account I still enjoyed the film because even though the story lacked brains and heart the over the top action sequences were entertaining enough. This is a movie for all of those people who are action junkies who can get past the lack of a great story even though there is a story to this film.
Now the story is about a man named Wesley who has no motivation to live the life hes living and feels he is supposed to something other than what he is doing in life. Whenever he gets into a hostile situation he gets these overwhelming feelings which he thinks is anxiety in which he takes medicine for it. What he doesn't understand is that its something that he has within him to allow him to assess the situation at hand. Picking up his medicine he runs into the beautiful Angelina Jolie who plays Fox a member of a group of assassins that have been around for a thousand years and tells him that his father was killed by a rogue assassin and that assassin is after him at that moment. The organization which is run by the great Morgan Freeman trains him and helps him to stop the killer and allow him to get his revenge.
I don't want to give away details to spoil the movie but its the type of action movie that starts off fast and keeps going never slowing down til the credits show. Tons of greatly inventive action sequences and stunts but no deeply felt story like in The Dark Knight or even Iron Man. They casted some great actors in the roles and they do well enough as the script would allow them to show personality and to get you to feel for them but its not the type to win any oscars or awards for the acting or even best film of the year but it is still entertaining and is definitely for the action lovers.
